An EPP code, also known as an authorization code or transfer key, is a unique password assigned to a domain name that is required to authorize the transfer of that domain between registrars.
How Does Epp Code Work?
The EPP (Extensible Provisioning Protocol) code acts as a security measure to prevent unauthorized domain transfers. When you initiate a domain transfer to a new registrar, you must provide the EPP code from your current registrar to prove you are the legitimate owner. This code is typically a random string of letters, numbers, and special characters generated by the registrar holding the domain.
To obtain your EPP code, you usually request it through your current registrar's control panel or customer support. Some registrars display it immediately, while others email it to the registrant contact address on file. EPP codes are typically valid for a limited time, often five to fourteen days, after which a new code must be generated if the transfer has not been completed.
