What is SaaS (Software as a Service)?
Software as a Service (SaaS) is a cloud computing model where applications are hosted by a provider and delivered to users over the internet on a subscription basis. Users access the software through a web browser without installing or maintaining it locally.
How Does Saas Work?
SaaS applications handle all infrastructure concerns behind the scenes, including servers, databases, storage, and security updates. The provider manages everything from the physical hardware to the application layer, allowing users to focus entirely on using the software. Common SaaS examples include email platforms, project management tools, CRM systems, and website builders.
From a hosting perspective, SaaS represents the highest level of abstraction in the cloud service model stack, which also includes Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS). SaaS eliminates the need for customers to manage servers, apply patches, or handle scaling, but it also provides the least amount of customization and control over the underlying infrastructure.
