How Does Resource Allocation Work?
In shared hosting environments, resource allocation is typically managed by the hosting provider using tools like CloudLinux, which creates lightweight virtual environments (LVE) for each account with defined limits on CPU, memory, and I/O operations. This prevents any single account from consuming excessive resources and degrading performance for neighboring sites.
VPS and cloud hosting offer more explicit resource allocation, where customers select specific amounts of CPU, RAM, and storage for their instances. These resources are guaranteed through hypervisor-level enforcement, meaning your allocation is available regardless of what other tenants on the same physical server are doing. As your needs grow, most providers allow you to scale resource allocation up or down without migration.
